History

Who are we?

Andrée Jardin is an artisanal brushmaker established in the Nantes region in France since 1947. Our desire is to share with as many people as possible home accessories that are respectful of our environment, beautiful, functional and that translate a French art of living.

Our story

1947

The adventure begins!

Georges-René Julio leaves the Brosserie Pechon in Nantes when the brush factory closes. Together with his wife Andrée Jardin, he starts his own business at 167 rue des Hauts Pavés in Nantes by buying horsehair from local slaughterhouses and manufacturing them into all kinds of brushes as well as mattresses. From this time on, the selection of primary material is an essential aspect of the business.

1969

A family affair

The company SARL JULIO et Fils is founded and begins to employ four of Georges-René et Andrée’s children: Hélène, Henry, René, et André Julio. They cease to manufacture horsehair and instead focus their activity on the fabrication of industrial brushes: small brushes and brooms for use in flour mills, and brushes for bleach in shipyards.

1984

Savoir faire above all else

André JULIO takes over the family business, and the brush factory rejects mass distribution and production in order to better meet industry demand. By specializing in customized technical brushes for local agriculture, aeronautics, and the food industry, the quality of their products is unparalleled.

2009

Looking to the future

Jean-Baptiste and François-Marie proudly take the reins of the family business to restore traditional know-how while keeping the future of the company in mind. They begin to collaborate with designers to produce contemporary brush designs.

2012

Bringing a legacy to light

The JULIO brothers decide to create a high-end consumer brush line. They choose the name Andrée Jardin as a tribute to their grandmother. Their mission? Restore the prestige of brush manufacturing and allow consumers to give more meaning to their purchases.
